About
Bayliss Boatworks has built custom sportfishing yachts at its facility on Harbor Road in Wanchese, North Carolina, since 2002. The company says its founder learned the trade from a lifetime on the water, and it describes its goal as building the most effective, efficient and well-built sportfishing yachts possible.
Each project starts with a design phase in which the yard asks owners how they plan to use the boat: how far they will travel, where and how they fish, whether they will entertain or bring family, and what matters most in the layout. Construction begins on a jig in the hull shop, where the boat passes milestones such as the “whiskey plank,” hull rollover and engine installation. About a third of the way through the build it moves to the main shop for cabin installation, flybridge and mezzanine work, interior cabinetry, paint and sea trials before delivery. Build timelines vary with the size and complexity of the vessel, and the company stresses regular communication with owners during construction.
Delivered boats shown on the site include 60-foot and 64-foot Bayliss yachts. The company also operates the Bayliss Boatyard and lists careers, videos and a team page on its website.
