About
Albemarle Boats builds express sportfishing boats at its facility on Midway Drive in Edenton, North Carolina. The company was incorporated in 1978, a year after Scott Boat Works was organized, and introduced its first model, the Albemarle 24, in 1979. Its history page credits it with introducing jackshaft (JPS) drive technology in 1986.
Carolina Classic Boats was founded in 1991 at the same Midway Drive site. Albemarle moved back into that refurbished plant in 2001, and Carolina Classic followed in 2012. The company’s timeline records several ownership changes: Albemarle joined Brunswick Corporation in 2005, was sold to a private owner in 2009, and in 2015 was bought, together with Carolina Classic, by Murphy Alternative Investments. That year the two brands merged as Albemarle Boats, The Carolina Classic.
Recent launches include the 27 Dual Console in 2018, the 31 Dual Console in 2019, the 30 Express in 2021, Mercury outboard-powered models in 2023 and the 45 Carolinian Fisharound Express in 2024. A 2020 partnership with Spencer Yachts produced the Albemarle 53 Spencer Edition. The current lineup on the website runs from the 27 Dual Console through the 30 and 36 Express, the 41 Custom Carolina Edition and the 45 Carolinian Fisharound to the 53 Albe/Spencer Edition, and is sold through dealers in the U.S. and abroad.
