Athletic shoes, casual and dress shoes, boots, sandals, work and safety footwear and children’s shoes all fall under footwear manufacturing. Some companies here are brands that design and sell their own lines; others run factories that make footwear for private-label clients. How the sole is attached, whether cemented, stitched or molded, affects comfort, durability and whether the shoe can be resoled.
Retailers and new footwear brands should settle three things early: the type of shoe, the materials and the size range. Leather, synthetics, textiles and rubber compounds each change cost, weight and wear. Ask about sampling and fit testing, which sizes and widths a factory can produce, minimum order quantities per style and color, and how long development takes from design to delivery. For work or safety footwear, confirm which performance standards apply. Quality inspection, packaging and the handling of defects and returns are worth agreeing on up front.
Footwear companies on this page are named in a simple directory, linked to their websites where available. Being higher or lower on the page means nothing, and a name appearing here is not an endorsement. Confirm product and production details with each company. Shoe makers that are not listed, or need an entry corrected, can apply to be added or updated.
